The evening prior to the tragic demise of John Price, aged 44, he had forewarned his colleagues that if he failed to show up the next day, Katherine Knight would be responsible for his fate. These chilling words came true when Price, a well-regarded individual by his friends, did not appear for his early work shift, prompting a coworker to visit his residence. Upon arrival, the coworker discovered blood splattered across the entrance.
Authorities were swiftly alerted, and upon entering Price’s home in New South Wales, Australia, they were confronted with a harrowing scene. The interior was soaked in blood, and hanging from a meathook in the kitchen was a piece of human skin described as a “pelt” by former Sergeant Robert Wells.
In the kitchen, a pot simmered on the stove, containing Price’s head along with vegetables. Nearby, chunks of his flesh were served on plates atop the kitchen table, each plate adorned with the names of Price’s children who were elsewhere for the night.
The ghastly scene continued in the living room where Price’s decapitated torso lay, while Katherine Knight, the perpetrator, was found asleep on the sofa. It was later revealed that Knight had ingested parts of Price’s flesh after brutally attacking him, followed by consuming sleeping pills.
Knight was hospitalized and subsequently arrested. The crime scene photos were so gruesome that the judge offered the jury the option to be excused from viewing them. The investigation revealed that Knight had stabbed Price a total of 37 times.
Due to the severity of the crime and Knight’s lack of remorse, Justice Barry O’Keefe sentenced her to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, marking the first instance in Australian history where a woman received such a sentence. O’Keefe emphasized that Knight should never be released and was undeserving of mercy.
During the trial, distressing details about Knight’s troubled past emerged. She had endured a traumatic childhood marred by sexual abuse from multiple men, including her father. These experiences led to tumultuous relationships in her adult life, culminating in the horrific events surrounding Price’s murder.
Knight’s history of violence and aggression, stemming from her abusive upbringing, ultimately manifested in the brutal act against John Price, highlighting a tragic cycle of abuse and trauma.
