An Iranian nuclear enrichment facility has suffered damage following airstrikes conducted by the US and Israel, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The IAEA reported that the damage focused on the entrance buildings leading to the underground section of the Natanz atomic site in Iran. Although some recent damage was observed, the IAEA indicated that there were no expected radiological consequences resulting from the incident.

Satellite images released by Vantor show multiple buildings at the Natanz nuclear complex in Isfahan, Iran, displaying signs of fresh damage, with two smaller buildings appearing to be more significantly impacted.

Confirming the damage, the IAEA stated that recent satellite imagery revealed harm to the entrance buildings of Iran’s Natanz Fuel Enrichment Plant, with no radiological consequences expected. This facility had previously suffered severe damage during the conflict between Iran and Israel in June.

Iran’s Ambassador to the IAEA, Reza Najafi, accused the attackers of targeting Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, specifically mentioning the Natanz site. He dismissed claims of Iran pursuing nuclear weapons as a false justification for the attacks.

Located 135 miles south of the capital, Natanz comprises both above-ground and below-ground laboratories responsible for much of Iran’s uranium enrichment activities. Prior to the conflict, Iran utilized advanced centrifuges at Natanz to enrich uranium up to 60%, nearing weapons-grade levels.

Following previous attacks, the main above-ground enrichment building at Natanz, known as the Pilot Fuel Enrichment Plant, was rendered non-functional, with underground centrifuge cascades also suffering significant damage. Subsequent airstrikes by the US further targeted the underground facilities, likely causing extensive destruction.
