A man undergoing his driving test was apprehended for drug driving in the midst of the examination. Law enforcement officers flagged down a vehicle in St Helens around 5 pm on Sunday due to a malfunctioning brake light. Upon interaction with the driver, a distinct odor of cannabis was detected. Subsequently, the driver failed a drug wipe test and was found in possession of cannabis.
The 26-year-old individual from Wigan, Greater Manchester, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and taken into police custody. He has since been released pending further investigation.
Roads Policing Inspector Simon Wilson emphasized the seriousness of drug driving, stating that despite the ironic situation of someone being arrested during a driving test, driving under the influence of drugs poses significant risks. Merseyside Police takes a strong stance against illegal substances, emphasizing the dangers they pose to both individuals and innocent road users.
