A man in Las Vegas is facing charges of animal cruelty after allegedly harming a flamingo during a break-in at a hotel. Mitchell Fairbarn from Canada was arrested at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino for suspicion of multiple counts of animal abuse. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning when Fairbarn was caught on CCTV entering the flamingo habitat and taking a Chilean flamingo named ‘Peachy’. While trying to remove the bird, he caused injuries to several birds, including one that he restrained from escaping. Fairbarn was seen carrying the bird back to his room, laughing and stating he intended to take it home. Despite claiming he was trying to help the distressed flamingo, Fairbarn was charged with felony animal abuse. Peachy sustained a wing injury that required stitches, along with injuries to two other flamingos. Authorities found incriminating evidence in Fairbarn’s hotel room, leading to his arrest and multiple charges related to animal torture. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 9 after posting bail and being ordered to avoid the Las Vegas Strip. Caesars Entertainment Corp., the hotel owner, expressed deep concern over the incident and assured that the affected birds are under veterinary care for their recovery.
