A man known as “Nasty” has been sentenced to prison for the brutal murder of a deaf woman in London. Duane Owusu, 36, was described as a monster by witnesses for violently attacking Zahwa Mukhtar, 27, after she was thrown out of a car during a night out in Dagenham on August 16, 2025.

The court heard that Ms. Mukhtar, who had never met Owusu before, was in a car with a group of people when she was ejected by Owusu following an argument. Prior to this, she had pulled the hair of Owusu’s female friend and made threatening gestures, leading to the violent altercation.

During the attack, Owusu kicked Ms. Mukhtar in the face while she was seated on the pavement, followed by a fatal punch as she tried to get up. Witnesses recounted the horrific scene, with one describing how Ms. Mukhtar fell to the ground pleading for help while Owusu displayed uncontrollable rage.

After the assault, the car drove away, but Owusu and his group were apprehended by the police nearby. Ms. Mukhtar was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered a skull fracture and a fatal brain injury. Despite denying punching her, Owusu was found guilty of murder in a trial that shocked jurors, including an incident where Ms. Mukhtar’s brother reacted aggressively towards the defendant.

CCTV footage presented in court captured Owusu criticizing a man for wanting to assist Ms. Mukhtar, claiming he was traumatized by the events. However, he continued to deny the charges of murder and manslaughter brought against him in the tragic case.
