Detective Urges Public Help in Murder Suspect Hunt

Published on

A detective investigating a murder case has made a new appeal for assistance in locating a suspect believed to have escaped to Turkey after brutally killing his romantic rival.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe has urged the public to step forward with any information that could help apprehend Ceyhan Dinler, 38, who fled the country following the stabbing death of Cumali Turhan in Chelmsford, Essex, back in November 2024.

The court revealed that Mr. Turhan, aged 45, was fatally stabbed in the neck after being tortured on November 19, 2024. Dinler reportedly discovered that Mr. Turhan was involved in a secret relationship with his girlfriend, leading to the violent incident. The two men were last seen together in a pub before the gruesome murder took place.

During the assault, parts of the victim’s body, including his tongue tip and genitals, were mutilated and discarded in a bin. Evidence suggested that Mr. Turhan had been tortured while alive, with visible signs of forced cutting on his tongue. The authorities eventually located his body at a landfill site in Colchester following an extensive search.

Appearing on BBC One’s Crimewatch Live, Detective Chief Inspector Metcalfe emphasized the importance of public cooperation in bringing justice for Cumali and his family. She stated, “We are actively seeking Ceyhan Dinler for questioning in connection with Cumali’s murder. Any information, no matter how small, could be crucial in solving this case.”

Furthermore, a man was recently sentenced to seven years in prison for his involvement in the disposal of Mr. Turhan’s body and hindering proper burial procedures. Ciprian Ilie, aged 44, assisted in placing the victim’s body in a bin, leading to its inadvertent disposal at a landfill.

According to the trial proceedings, there existed a long-standing dispute between Dinler and Mr. Turhan over a shared romantic interest. Crimestoppers’ Phil Breckton assured potential informants of complete anonymity, stressing the importance of providing any leads that could aid the investigation.

The family of Cumali Turhan is pleading for closure and justice in this tragic case, both in Turkey and the UK. Every piece of information could make a significant difference in resolving this heartbreaking situation.

A Channel 4 documentary, “Catching a Killer: Buried Truths,” previously aired footage showing Mr. Turhan and Dinler at a bar just before the alleged murder occurred. The men were seen engaging in a heated conversation at The Glove pub in Chelmsford before departing together, with subsequent events leading to the fatal stabbing of Mr. Turhan.

It is believed that Dinler enticed Mr. Turhan to a nearby bar, where the fatal incident unfolded. Evidence, including blood traces and fingerprints, points to a violent altercation resulting in Mr. Turhan’s tragic death.
