A tragic incident unfolded as a one-year-old boy tragically lost his life due to being left alone in a hot car for over two hours. The child, Amillio, was in the vehicle with his two-year-old sibling while their 20-year-old mother, Maya Hernandez, attended a medical spa for a cosmetic procedure known as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).
The intense heat inside the car led to a dire situation when the air conditioning malfunctioned, causing young Amillio to experience severe distress, including foaming at the mouth and eventually suffering a seizure. Despite the escalating situation, witnesses reported that Maya did not check on her children nor disclose their presence to anyone.
Following a plea of no contest to involuntary manslaughter, Maya Hernandez was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the tragic death of her son. During the trial, Hernandez explained that she had monitored the boys through a phone app and believed the car would remain cool with the air conditioning running. However, the system failed, and the external temperature rose to 38 degrees Celsius, causing the car interior to become even hotter.
Amillio was rushed to the hospital with a body temperature of 41 degrees Celsius and was pronounced dead at 5:48 pm. The sentencing judge, Charles Brehmer, imposed a fixed term of 15 years in prison for the mother’s actions.
In a separate case, a 31-year-old mother in Ireland faced charges of child neglect for mistreating her children, including slapping her crying baby and failing to properly care for her other two children. The woman pleaded guilty to three counts of neglect, with the offenses occurring between 2018 and 2023. To protect the identities of the children involved, she cannot be named.
Concerns about the mother’s ability to cope arose following family tragedies, including multiple deaths and her husband’s suicide. Investigations revealed instances of physical abuse towards the children, with reports of the mother slapping the baby and making concerning remarks to her other children. Specialized authorities conducted interviews with the children, corroborating the disturbing accounts of neglect and mistreatment.
