On Mother’s Day, a tragic incident unfolded for Molly J. Gladney as her own son assaulted her, leaving her injured and abandoned in front of their home. The relationship between Molly, aged 66, and her son Antonio Gladney had been tumultuous due to his criminal background and periods of incarceration.
Despite years of no contact, Antonio chose to visit his mother in Shannon, Mississippi, on Mother’s Day in 2017. What could have been a moment of reconciliation turned into a nightmare as an argument escalated, leading Antonio to violently attack his mother with a garden tool, inflicting severe injuries.
Following the assault, Antonio left Molly severely battered in the carport, where she was later discovered lifeless by the authorities. Antonio was arrested after returning to the scene and eventually confessed to the crime. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office provided details of the incident, describing the tragic outcome of the altercation.
During his court appearance, Antonio admitted to the murder, attributing his actions to being under the influence of substances and emotional distress. Subsequently, he engaged in another violent act in jail, which led to additional charges and ultimately a 25-year prison sentence for the combined offenses.
