A 12-year-old girl was tragically discovered deceased in her bedroom, raising concerns that she may have taken her own life following alleged bullying incidents on Snapchat.
The girl, identified as Amelia Bath, was found by her mother, Marie, when she went to wake her up for school on the morning of March 6th. According to family members, the previous evening was spent joyfully at Amelia’s grandparents’ house, sharing a meal and enjoying each other’s company without any indication of distress. However, after the police examined Amelia’s phone and iPad, they uncovered messages on Snapchat suggesting she was a victim of online bullying, as revealed by her uncle, Kris Marsh.
Expressing shock and disbelief, Kris mentioned, “It was an absolute massive shock to everybody. It was totally out of the blue. I don’t think you ever recover from something like this.” He described how the family had a normal evening before the tragic incident unfolded the next morning.
Amelia, a student at The Regis School in Bognor Regis, leaves behind her devastated parents, Marie and Steve Bath, along with her older sister Olivia, aged 14. Despite appearing happy and well-liked, the family was stunned to learn about the potential cyberbullying Amelia faced. They are now advocating for awareness about the dangers of cyberbullying and urging children to seek help when facing difficulties.
Emphasizing the need for open communication, Kris highlighted the importance of addressing bullying behavior among children. He expressed concerns about the impact of hurtful messages and emphasized the significance of seeking support rather than resorting to drastic measures like suicide.
In response to the tragedy, Amelia’s aunt, Lisa, initiated a fundraising campaign to cover funeral expenses and support a children’s hospice care charity, Chestnut Tree House. The campaign has garnered substantial donations and an outpouring of supportive messages.
Describing Amelia as a cheerful and popular young girl, Kris remembered her fondly, stating, “Amelia was just your normal happy go lucky, very popular little girl. She was loved by everyone.” Despite the absence of apparent warning signs, the family continues to mourn the loss of a vibrant and energetic soul.
The authorities from Sussex Police confirmed the incident, offering condolences to the family and emphasizing the availability of support services for those impacted by the tragedy.
