A British couple has been apprehended in connection with an alleged abduction attempt on a bustling street in a popular vacation spot. The pair, described as middle-aged, reportedly tried to coerce a Spanish woman into their vehicle as she strolled along a road in Palma, Majorca’s capital. The incident unfolded in the Son Ferriol neighborhood on a Sunday around 1 pm.
According to reports, the British man, believed to be in his 40s or 45s, exited the car on Maria Ana Bonafe Street and approached the woman, attempting to forcibly move her into the vehicle. The purported victim, a woman in her 60s, resisted, ultimately throwing herself to the ground and calling out for help. Witnesses, including the woman’s husband, quickly intervened, thwarting the alleged abduction.
Law enforcement arrested the British couple in the vicinity approximately an hour later. A spokesperson for the National Police in Majorca confirmed the arrests, stating that the couple is currently in custody following the incident in Son Ferriol. The authorities mentioned that the woman in her 60s sustained minor injuries, was treated at a hospital, and discharged shortly after. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with more details expected to be released later.
A witness recounted that the British woman, not the man as initially reported, purportedly tried to coerce the elderly woman into the car. The witness described the woman as the driver, clad in pajamas. The daughter of the targeted woman, identified as Isabel, shared details with a local newspaper, mentioning that her mother, aged 64, was waiting for her before the alarming encounter.
Isabel stated, “A white car pulled up next to her, and the driver, dressed in pajamas, aggressively tried to force her into the vehicle while commanding her to get in.” She further described how her mother’s husband and concerned bystanders rushed to her aid as she resisted by throwing herself to the ground. The perpetrators reportedly fled the scene before the arrival of the police.
Isabel expressed her initial shock upon not finding her mother at their meeting spot, only to discover her lying on the ground amidst a gathering crowd. The victim sustained bruises but particularly complained of neck pain from the ordeal.
