Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson has declined to provide any comments regarding speculations that Iran’s new supreme leader might have been covertly flown to Russia for urgent medical treatment.
Mojtaba Khamenei, aged 56, allegedly sustained severe injuries during the Israeli attack on February 28, resulting in the deaths of six family members, including his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian sources have acknowledged his injuries, with Tehran’s ambassador to Cyprus indicating that Mojtaba was hospitalized due to injuries to his legs, hand, and arm.
Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian president, refrained from confirming or refuting the claims of Mojtaba’s evacuation from Iran for medical care in a Russian presidential facility. Peskov simply stated, “We do not comment on such reports.”
Rumors circulating in Kuwait, citing “Iranian sources,” suggested that Mojtaba was transferred to Moscow via a Russian military aircraft in a clandestine operation due to health and security concerns.
Allegedly, upon arrival in Russia, Mojtaba underwent a successful surgical procedure before being further treated at a hospital located within one of Putin’s presidential residences. These assertions have not been independently verified.
Israel has claimed knowledge of Mojtaba’s whereabouts following remarks from US President Donald Trump insinuating that Iran’s new Supreme Leader might have already passed away. Trump expressed uncertainty about Mojtaba’s status, urging him to act wisely for his country if alive.
Russia is suspected of sharing intelligence with the Iranian regime and providing support for strikes on Western military installations in the Middle East.
Lieutenant General Nick Perry informed Defence Secretary John Healey that Russia appeared to have offered tactical guidance to Iran and its allies. Perry highlighted the adoption of Russian-influenced drone tactics by Iran, enhancing the effectiveness of their drone operations.
Healey suggested that Putin’s covert support is likely aiding Iran in the conflict initiated by the US and Israel on February 28. He emphasized the potential role of Putin’s influence in bolstering Iranian capabilities amidst the ongoing conflict.
The defence secretary pointed out that Putin benefits significantly from soaring oil prices, which provide additional resources for Russia’s military actions in Ukraine. He implied that Putin may view the conflict favorably due to the financial advantages it offers his regime.
