After the Oscars ceremony on Sunday night, a photo has sparked anger among viewers towards Hollywood celebrities. The 98th Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, where film industry stars gathered to honor the best cinematic achievements of the past year.
The highlights of the evening included “One Battle After Another” winning six awards, Jessie Buckley becoming the first Irish actress to win the best actress category for her role in “Hamnet,” and Autumn Durald Arkapaw making history as the first female winner of the Oscar for best cinematography for her work on “Sinners.”
During the event, attendee Kyle Buchanan shared a picture from his seat showcasing a note and snacks left for each guest, presumably by host Conan O’Brien. The note welcomed nominees, plus ones, and seat-fillers to the Oscars and humorously referred to the snacks as a “Moderately Happy Meal”™, joking about their value compared to a movie theater.
The snack offerings, including Swedish Fish sweets, Skinny Pop popcorn, and a bottle of water, led Kyle to jokingly comment that these snacks would be his final awards-show meal of the season.
Following the ceremony, Matt Neglia, editor-in-chief of awards tracking site Next Best Picture, shared a photo from inside the Dolby Theatre revealing a messy scene with attendees leaving behind their trash scattered across the auditorium. This prompted criticism from viewers who condemned the lack of basic decency among the wealthy elite attendees.
The backlash on social media included comments about the entitlement of the rich and famous, the lack of manners despite wealth, and suggestions for better cleanup measures at such prestigious events.
Additionally, the ceremony marked Michael B Jordan’s first-ever win, as he triumphed in the Best Actor category over competitors Timothee Chalamet and Ethan Hawke.
