One of Japan’s most notorious and disturbing serial murderers brutally killed, sexually assaulted, and dismembered young children in a case that deeply shocked the nation.

Known as the ‘Otaku Murderer,’ Tsutomu Miyazaki was responsible for the deaths of four girls in 1988 in a series of horrifying attacks. This individual, obsessed with anime and pornography, engaged in acts of necrophilia and cannibalism, showing no remorse for his heinous crimes.

Miyazaki’s early life in Tokyo was marked by severe trauma. There were rumors that he was born from an incestuous relationship between his father and eldest sister, resulting in deformed hands that subjected him to constant mockery.

Incidents like being caught peeping at his sister while she bathed and violently attacking both her and his mother further underscored his disturbed behavior.

His killing spree began at the age of 26, shortly after the death of his beloved grandfather, which experts believe pushed him over the edge emotionally.

After his grandfather’s funeral, Miyazaki consumed some of his ashes to feel a closer connection while distancing himself from his family.

The first victim was four-year-old Mari Konno, whom he abducted and then strangled, followed by sexual abuse. Miyazaki then took disturbing photographs of Mari’s remains, kept her clothes as mementos, and later returned to sever her limbs.

Adding to the horror, he sent a package to Mari’s distraught parents containing her ashes, teeth, a photo of her missing outfit, and a chilling note urging them to investigate and prove her fate.

Subsequently, he kidnapped seven-year-old Masami Yoshizawa and later Erika Namba, subjecting them to similar gruesome fates. His final victim, five-year-old Ayako Nomoto, was not only murdered and violated but also dismembered, with parts of her body hidden in a cemetery and the hills, while he consumed her hands.

Miyazaki’s reign of terror came to an end in 1989 when he was caught by a father while photographing a nude young girl. Upon arrest, he expressed feelings of loneliness and a disturbing connection to his victims.

During his trial, Miyazaki refused to take responsibility for his actions, portraying them as acts of kindness. He tried to blame an alter ego, ‘the Rat Man,’ for the killings, claiming insanity. Despite his plea being rejected, he was executed by hanging on June 17, 2008, at the age of 45 for his monstrous crimes.
