Legendary radio host Danny Kelly has shared that he has received a diagnosis of throat cancer. At the age of 69, Kelly disclosed this unfortunate news during a talkSPORT program on Wednesday.
Having been a part of talkSPORT since 2007, Kelly will be taking a hiatus to undergo treatment with hopes of a full recovery. He emphasized the importance of regular check-ups after initially visiting a doctor due to suspected acid reflux six weeks ago.
In his own words, Kelly stated, “I need to be frank with you all, especially as most of our audience are men, who can be reluctant to discuss medical matters. Six weeks ago, I visited the doctor with concerns about my eating habits, thinking it was just acid reflux. However, I was diagnosed with cancer.”
Specifically, Kelly revealed that he has esophageal cancer, a serious condition. Despite the difficult news, he expressed some relief that the cancer had not spread internally, and medical professionals are optimistic about his treatment plan.
Acknowledging the challenging road ahead, Kelly highlighted that his treatment will involve a rigorous process of chemotherapy, surgery, and further medication. He acknowledged the support of talkSPORT during this time and expressed his desire to return to broadcasting once his health allows.
Encouraging others to prioritize their health, Kelly emphasized the importance of seeking medical advice if something feels off in their bodies. He concluded by thanking his listeners for their support and well-wishes, expressing hope for a speedy recovery and a return to the airwaves in the future.
