A well-known BBC Radio 1 presenter has sadly passed away while in Spain, sparking an outpouring of tributes. Dave Jamieson, who kickstarted his broadcasting journey on hospital radio, was in Spain at the time of his death. As of now, no additional details have been disclosed.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed by Boom Radio, a station where he hosted a show on Sundays during the early hours. Boom Radio expressed, “He has been an integral part of our team for five years, starting on the Saturday breakfast show before transitioning to Sundays. His absence will be deeply felt.”
The late presenter’s career commenced in his youth, leading him to the early days of local BBC radio, beginning with the first regional segment in Leicester. He then made appearances on Radio 1 Club and BBC Scotland. Subsequently, he ventured into Birmingham’s BRMB, played a role in the establishment of Radio Clyde in Glasgow, and contributed to Mercia Sound in Coventry.
Dave was also associated with Nerja Gold, who also shared the news online. The station conveyed, “We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of our dear friend and colleague Dave Jamieson. After a lengthy career in broadcasting across the UK, Dave settled in Nerja, where he continued to engage with various local radio stations, including Nerja Gold Radio and Boom Radio in the UK. Dave will be greatly missed by all those who frequented his Tuesday quizzes at Potters Bar.”
Friends and admirers took to social media to pay their respects to Dave, with former colleague Paul Savory reminiscing, “I am devastated. Dave was a close friend from our days at BRMB, where I often assisted him in crafting questions for his Six of the Best Quiz. I spoke to him last during the Christmas period. Rest in Peace, my old friend.”
Another individual added, “I am deeply saddened by this news. Dave was a radio luminary, commencing his career in hospital radio in Edinburgh. I have fond memories of collaborating with him at Heriot-Watt Student Television – he pursued Electrical Engineering, while I was studying Business Organisation. Your soothing voice will be dearly missed, Dave. Rest in Peace, my friend.”
