A Morrisons distribution center employee in Sittingbourne has been diagnosed with meningitis after visiting Club Chemistry in Canterbury. This incident coincides with the emergence of seven new meningitis cases in Kent, bringing the total to 27 confirmed and suspected infections. The specific meningitis strain in this case has not been identified yet.

A spokesperson from Morrisons confirmed the situation, stating that the affected employee is currently undergoing treatment, with the company maintaining close communication with the employee’s family. The distribution center continues its operations following all government guidelines while closely monitoring the situation.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) reported 15 confirmed cases of meningitis in laboratories as of March 18, with an additional 12 cases under investigation. Two fatalities have occurred in connection with the outbreak, but no new deaths have been reported recently. Furthermore, 600 meningitis B vaccines were distributed at the University of Kent on the previous day.

Students are receiving vaccinations at the campus sports center, with emphasis on the importance of two doses of the MenB vaccine for protection against meningococcal B disease. It is crucial to note that this vaccine does not cover all meningococcal disease strains or prevent bacterial spread in the community.
