The former Top Gear host established The Farmer’s Dog in Oxfordshire in 2024, a venture that was showcased on his Amazon Prime Video series, Clarkson’s Farm. Despite attracting a large number of the show’s fans since its opening, the pub has received a series of negative reviews.

Critics have likened the pub to a fast-food chain, expressing dissatisfaction with the service quality. One individual, who booked a table for a 30th birthday celebration, felt “let down” by the experience, citing lack of ambience and robotic service. They also noted the absence of any acknowledgment of the birthday despite mentioning it during the reservation. This disappointment led them to declare they would not return or recommend the establishment.

Another reviewer criticized the high prices, labeling a pie costing over £25 as a rip-off, suggesting that without the celebrity name, the pub would only be considered average. A third patron disapproved of the pub’s cashless payment policy, stating it does not support cash transactions, which they found disappointing.

Further negative feedback focused on the poor food quality and rushed service, with complaints about cold, dry meat, undercooked vegetables, and lack of customer engagement. These aspects led to disappointment among the diners, who felt the establishment prioritized speed over food quality.

On the contrary, some patrons have been highly impressed with the venue’s offerings. Praising the quality of the sausages, mash, and steak pie, they emphasized the use of fresh, local produce, justifying the slightly higher prices. Another visitor highlighted the positive experience at The Farmer’s Dog, mentioning the well-stocked Grand Tour tent/shop and the friendly staff.
