Published on

Bomb squad officers responded urgently to an incident in Dublin today following reports of two suspicious devices discovered near a shop. The Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team retrieved two suspect devices from Ballyfermot Road this morning after being called to the scene by Gardaí around 10:10 am. The specialists examined the devices and additional equipment before taking them away for further analysis, leading to the closure of the road. The Defence Forces spokesperson confirmed that the area has been handed back to An Garda Síochána.

In a statement to Dublin Live, the Defence Forces mentioned that the EOD team identified two devices and other equipment during their assessment. After removing the devices for further examination, the scene was handed over to AGS, marking the completion of the operation.

Gardaí issued a warning earlier in the day, informing the public of the ongoing incident on Ballyfermot Road and advising them to avoid the area as the road remained closed.

Cllr. Daithí Doolan, chairperson of the Local Community Safety Partnership, expressed deep concern over the discovery of the devices in Ballyfermot. He emphasized the need for vigilance within the community and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. Doolan also called for increased resources and personnel for the Gardaí to combat such serious crimes effectively, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward to ensure justice is served.
