“Royal Family Tragedy: Lady Gabriella Inherit £660K Estate”

Published on

The late husband of Lady Gabriella Kingston from the Royal Family left an estate valued at £660,000 after his passing. Thomas Kingston, who tragically died in February 2024, did not leave a will and transferred his entire estate to his widow. He was a financier who had been at the helm of an investment firm that faced insurmountable debts totaling £8 million. Despite the financial challenges, Kingston injected over a million pounds of his personal funds into the struggling firm in an attempt to salvage it.

Following his death, it was revealed that Kingston’s suicide was potentially linked to the side effects of the medication he was taking at the time. The details of his estate were disclosed in his letter of administration, indicating an initial sum of £939,429 which was reduced to £664,429 after deductions for expenses, debts, and taxes.

The legal proceedings regarding Kingston’s estate were finalized by the High Court just this week, more than two years after his demise. The 45-year-old businessman had tied the knot with Lady Gabriella, the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, in 2019. Kingston was actively involved in trading on financial markets and held a directorial position at Devonport Capital. Records indicated that his firm was grappling with an £8 million deficit at the time of his passing, accumulating debts of £27.9 million against assets valued at £19.8 million.

Prior to his untimely death, Kingston had invested £1.6 million of his personal finances into the company. His father, Martin Kingston, a barrister, had also endeavored to assist the troubled firm and was owed £162,000. The company has since gone into liquidation, with creditors expected to receive repayments at a rate of 71 pence for every pound owed.

Kingston was found deceased with a gunshot wound, and his father discovered his body in a locked structure on their property, suffering from a severe head injury. In a statement presented during the Gloucester inquest, Lady Gabriella, aged 44, revealed that she had exchanged positive messages with her husband on the day of his passing. She speculated that a combination of medication, including sertraline, antidepressants, and zopiclone sleeping pills, may have influenced his decision to take his own life. Lady Gabriella emphasized that Kingston had never expressed suicidal tendencies to her and believed his actions were prompted by an adverse reaction to the medication he had been prescribed shortly before his death. She expressed her conviction that had Kingston been troubled by any issues, he would have confided in her, and she perceived his choice to end his life as a spontaneous act triggered by the presence of the firearm in his parents’ home, where he was found.
