The Met Office has pinpointed several areas in the UK that are expected to see snowfall before Thursday. Despite the relatively mild weather in March so far, a cold spell is on the horizon, with potential snow showers forecasted for certain regions by next week.
A new weather map for Wednesday, March 25, released by the Met Office shows that snow is likely to fall in various locations, particularly in northern Scotland. However, wintry showers could also affect the north, and parts of Northern Ireland may experience snow as well. The Met Office has warned of “much more unstable” conditions approaching from Wednesday, bringing snow over elevated terrain, coastal winds, and below-average temperatures.
According to the latest predictions, areas expected to witness snow based on the Met Office’s maps include northern Scotland, central Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The weather agency’s forecast indicates that early next week will see a shift to a cooler and more unstable weather pattern, with rain moving into northern and western regions, potentially turning into snow over Scottish mountains. Strong winds are anticipated in the north, along with coastal gales at times.
Met Office Chief Forecaster, Steve Willington, mentioned that while the upcoming week will start with warm sunshine, colder spells and wintry showers are not uncommon for March. The shift to a cooler northwesterly flow will lead to a drop in temperatures and more unsettled weather, including hill snow in the north and gusty winds. This weather pattern aligns with the typical conditions for this time of year.
This week has seen relatively mild temperatures in Britain, with Wednesday marking the warmest day of the year so far, reaching 20.9°C in Gogerddan, west Wales. Temperature fluctuations are expected during this period, as warm conditions alternate with colder snaps, coinciding with the upcoming clock change next weekend.
Following a warm weekend with temperatures expected to exceed 16°C, a drop in temperatures is forecasted. The Northwest of England is anticipated to enjoy the best weather on Saturday.
