President Donald Trump has issued a warning to deploy ICE immigration agents for security operations at American airports, with specific instructions to target individuals of Somali descent unlawfully. This provocative statement comes amid Democrats’ blockage of funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees both ICE and airport security.

Due to the budget standoff, many Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel, responsible for airport security screenings, are currently working without compensation. Democrats are using the DHS budget impasse to push for stricter regulations on ICE agents, including mandates for facial visibility and body cameras.

Tensions escalated following the deaths of protesters Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis at the hands of ICE agents, fueling an anti-ICE backlash. The ongoing DHS budget stalemate has caused significant delays at airports nationwide.

In response to the funding dispute, President Trump threatened to deploy ICE agents, who are still funded, for enhanced security measures at airports. In a statement on Truth Social, he emphasized cracking down on illegal immigrants, particularly those from Somalia, blaming them for the deterioration of Minnesota under the leadership of Governor, Attorney General, and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

President Trump expressed eagerness to witness ICE’s actions at airports, promoting his agenda of improving national security. Despite his repeated discriminatory remarks against individuals of Somali heritage, the majority of Somali diaspora in the U.S. are legal residents, with many holding American citizenship.

It is essential to note that U.S. laws prohibit discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, or ancestry at airports.
