Indira Varma plays Mrs. Gardiner in the series, which was filmed in Wales. Her character takes Mary under her wing, offering life-changing opportunities. Varma, 52, born to an Indian father and Swiss mother, grew up in Bath and graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1995.
