“The Other Bennet Sister” enthusiasts are now recognizing the familiar face of the poetry-loving lawyer featured in the series.
BBC One has brought back “The Other Bennet Sister,” a charming period drama starring Ella Bruccoleri from “Call the Midwife” as Mary Bennet.
The show, which showcases several well-known actors, continues the story from Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” focusing on the often overlooked Bennet sister as she journeys to London following a family tragedy.
In one of the plotlines, Mary encounters Tom Hayward, a friend of the Gardiners, while residing with them as a governess. Dónal Finn, a 30-year-old Irish actor from Dromina, County Cork, plays the character of Mr. Hayward.
Reflecting on his role selection, Finn shared that his personal background, growing up in a large family with sisters, resonated with Mary’s character more than with Elizabeth from “Pride and Prejudice.” He emphasized how the narrative highlights the transformation one can undergo when liberated from constricting environments.
Finn, a graduate of LAMDA with a Bachelor of Arts in acting, made his debut in “The Witcher” and later landed roles in series like “SAS: Rogue Heroes” and “The Wheel of Time.” Recognized as one of the ‘Rising Stars of Ireland,’ he has also showcased his talent on stage in productions such as “Hadestown.”
His upcoming appearances include the Prime Video series “Young Sherlock,” where he portrays James Moriarty, and various film roles like Karl Boden in “How to Build a Girl” and Albert in “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.”
Apart from his screen presence, Finn recently lent his voice to the historical audio drama “Turpin,” portraying the lead character of Richard Turpin, a butcher turned outlaw.
Additionally, the multi-talented Irish actor is known for his singing abilities, influenced by his musical upbringing, and shared fond memories of family gatherings involving group singing.
