In 1997, Enya invested in the 19th-century Manderley Castle, spending £2.5 million on the property. The castle, now her sanctuary, features various amenities such as an art room, exercise room, lounge area, staff quarters, and a large loft. Additionally, a tunnel from the basement leading to the Irish Sea provided private access to Killiney Beach, although this access was closed off in the 1980s.
Enya outbid Michael Flatley, the Riverdance star, for the castle, which she renamed Castle Manderley inspired by Daphne du Maurier’s gothic novel “Rebecca.” Concerned about potential stalkers, she undertook significant security measures and invested in extensive renovations for the property.
Known for her aversion to marriage, children, and social interactions—except with her long-time collaborators, Nicky and Roma Ryan—Enya leads a secluded life. While reports suggest she once shared her County Dublin residence with 12 cats, her current pet count remains undisclosed.
