Zero, a fintech banking app, has announced the cessation of its operations, prompting thousands of customers to transfer their funds to alternative accounts. The closure of the Zero Sustainable Money App impacts users with a Zero Personal Account, Zero Debit Mastercard, or Planet Safe Saver.
According to MoneySavingExpert.com, Zero has 21,500 registered users, but only 7,500 use the app regularly. All customers have received emails from Zero detailing the necessary steps to take. Although the app is set to close on March 31, there is a possibility of an earlier shutdown.
MSE advises users to withdraw their funds before March 31 to avoid any issues. Funds not withdrawn will be held for six years, with access available by contacting zero@transactpay.com. Savings account holders will have their funds transferred to their Zero personal account for subsequent transfer to another account.
Established in Cardiff in 2023 and launched publicly in January 2025, Zero Sustainable Money App is shutting down due to funding challenges. The company’s LinkedIn page confirms the closure as a result of the inability to secure additional funding or find a buyer.
Zero provided services such as a sustainable money app, current account, debit Mastercard, and savings account focused on environmentally conscious users, offering features like GreenScore to assess sustainability impact. The GreenScore feature analyzed spending habits to demonstrate sustainability levels.
Zero aimed to educate customers on the environmental impact of their financial decisions. Co-founder and CEO Richard Theo emphasized the company’s vision of utilizing money for the planet’s benefit while promoting effortless sustainability in digital banking.
