Residents in Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent, were left shocked and disgusted as raw sewage overflowed from drains during a heavy rainstorm. The incident on Paddock Rise led to a foul-smelling deluge of waste, including feces, toilet paper, and diapers, flowing down the street near people’s homes.

The sewage overflow happened around 7:30 pm last Tuesday due to the heavy rainfall. Rachel Hughes, a 50-year-old mother, recounted how her son detected the issue by the unpleasant smell. She described the distressing scene of sewage streaming past houses and onto sidewalks, expressing concern as this was not the first time such an event occurred.

Residents expressed their revulsion at the unsanitary conditions the following day, with remnants of sewage and toilet paper still visible. They highlighted the potential health risks, especially for children and families using the road regularly.

Severn Trent Water attributed the blockage to tree roots infiltrating the pipes. A spokesperson mentioned that while initial efforts were made to clear the obstruction, heavy rain prevented complete removal of the roots, necessitating a return visit with specialized equipment for a thorough resolution.

Labour MP Allison Gardner condemned the sewage spill as “disgraceful,” emphasizing the need for prompt and effective action to prevent such incidents in the future.
