A man has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder following the discovery of an unconscious man in a park located behind a Tesco store.
Authorities initiated a murder inquiry after responding to a call at Beaumont Leys Park in Leicester on Monday evening, April 6, where they found an unresponsive 62-year-old individual who later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Emergency services, including the East Midlands Ambulance Service, arrived at the scene before 7pm, and the police subsequently arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the incident. The suspect is currently under police detention.
Police have maintained cordons around the area to facilitate a thorough examination of the crime scene. Detective Inspector Kevin Hames of the East Midlands Murder Investigation Team stated that the investigation is in its early stages, and the victim’s family is receiving support from specialized officers during this challenging period.
Authorities are urging anyone who was present in the vicinity during the evening and may have witnessed the incident or possesses relevant information to come forward. Detectives emphasized the importance of reaching out to gather as much information as possible.
A police spokesperson earlier announced the cordoning off of an area between Krefeld Way and Beaumont Way to enable investigators to conduct a comprehensive examination of the scene and identify potential witnesses.
