Donald Trump has been criticizing the UK for its refusal to allow new oil drilling licenses in the North Sea. In a recent statement on Fox Business News, Trump expressed his frustration over the UK’s decision to close off the oil-rich area near Aberdeen, Scotland. He claimed that the North Sea holds significant oil resources with a lifespan of hundreds of years but has been shut down due to pressure from environmental groups.

Taking to Truth Social, Trump further lamented that the UK’s reluctance to tap into the North Sea oil reserves is causing a shortage of energy in Europe. He emphasized that Aberdeen, which is strategically positioned for energy production, should be thriving like Norway, which profits from selling its North Sea oil to the UK at double the price.

While many may assume Trump’s interest in North Sea drilling stems from geopolitical reasons or potential benefits to American companies, the real motivation behind his fervor lies in a legal dispute he had with the Scottish Government. Back in 2006, Trump clashed with Scottish authorities over plans to build an offshore wind farm near his golf course in Aberdeenshire. He believed the wind turbines would obstruct the view from his golf course and vehemently opposed the project, even taking the case to the UK Supreme Court.

Despite Trump’s efforts, the wind farm was eventually constructed, generating electricity for thousands of homes and serving as a testing ground for innovative technologies. Contrary to Trump’s claims that the turbines would harm wildlife, a study conducted at the site found no evidence of bird fatalities caused by the wind turbines.
