The music industry mourns the loss of Moya Brennan, the legendary singer and co-founder of Clannad, who passed away at the age of 73. Known for her iconic voice, Moya was the sister of the famous musician Enya. While Enya preferred a private life at her residence in Killiney, a rare photo of the siblings together has emerged from a wedding celebration in 2025 in Donegal.
Enya, who rarely makes public appearances, opened up in 2015 about her choice to maintain privacy to protect her creative process. Recently, she shared the heartbreaking news of Moya’s passing, expressing her deep sorrow and requesting privacy during this difficult time.
Moya’s legacy as a pioneer in Celtic music was solidified through her role in Clannad, where she showcased her talents as a songwriter and harpist. With over 25 albums released, Moya and Clannad achieved international success, earning prestigious awards like Grammys and BAFTAs.
Originally from Gaoth Dobhair in Donegal, Moya stayed connected to her roots by hosting music events at her family’s pub, Teach Leo. Despite her global recognition, she remained grounded in her hometown, fostering a nurturing environment for aspiring musicians.
After battling pulmonary fibrosis, Moya peacefully passed away, leaving behind her husband Tim Jarvis and their children, Aisling and Paul, both of whom have followed in her musical footsteps. Enya, who once performed with Clannad, ventured into a solo career, attaining worldwide fame.
Moya’s Funeral Mass is scheduled for April 17th at St Patrick’s Church, Meenaweal, Crolly, followed by interment in Magheragallon Cemetery, Gweedore. Her influence on Celtic music and dedication to her heritage will forever be cherished by fans worldwide.
