Joanna Page, known for her role in Gavin and Stacey, recently shared a heartwarming yet unusual story about her late dog Daisy. Joanna revealed that she asked her husband, actor James Thornton, to unearth Daisy’s remains from their garden just before they moved to a new house. Daisy, a Jack Russell who had been Joanna’s loyal companion since she was 21, lived to the age of 16.
After Daisy’s passing, Joanna couldn’t bear to cremate her beloved pet, opting instead to bury her in their garden with a basket, flowers, and a blanket. As the couple prepared to relocate, Joanna insisted that Daisy be exhumed, describing her as her “first child” and her “firstborn.” James complied with Joanna’s request, using a head torch to carefully dig up Daisy’s remains from the garden.
For now, Daisy’s ashes are kept in a transparent container in the garage, awaiting a permanent resting place in their future forever home. Joanna explained that she intends to bury Daisy once they settle in a place where they plan to spend their retirement. She humorously mentioned that if she were to pass away before that, Daisy’s remains would accompany her in the afterlife.
Joanna also shared her wish to be laid to rest alongside Daisy’s ashes and her children’s nursery school artwork. Despite her husband’s protests, Joanna has kept a plastic dog-shaped urn filled with another pet’s ashes that she accidentally purchased in a charity shop in Wales.
While recounting her quirky experiences on the Shagged Married Annoyed podcast, Joanna amused the hosts with her unique anecdotes, adding a touch of humor to her heartfelt connection with her late dog and her unusual collection of sentimental objects.
