“Inquiry Launched into Antisemitic Influencer Videos”

Published on

Police have initiated an inquiry following the circulation of online videos depicting influencers engaging in offensive antisemitic behavior towards strangers in public.
Reports suggest that individuals are recording inappropriate interactions, often discreetly using smart eyewear, and then sharing the content on various social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube.
One of the now-removed videos featured text reading ‘Asking Jews if they dropped their money’, accompanied by a crying emoji and a Star of David symbol.
In the footage, the camera operator approaches a young man wearing a kippah, saying, “Shalom – excuse me mate, you dropped your pound.”
Subsequently, a generic voiceover exclaims: “Well, well, well,” as the man picks up the coin.
Another scene shows the cameraperson interacting with a different man in traditional Jewish attire, again using the greeting “Shalom” and falsely claiming a pound coin fell from his pocket. The same stock audio effect is used when the coin is handed over.
In a separate video, believed to have been filmed in the Stamford Hill district of north London, the camera holder uses offensive pseudonyms like “Stingy Jew” and “Gas boy 221” while inquiring about a blind date scenario.
Another content creator with a significant following allegedly filmed himself scattering coins on the ground as a bait for Jewish individuals and harassing Jewish women for their contact details – termed as “Rizzing up Jewish women.”
Both individuals have been banned from TikTok since. The Mirror has reached out to Google, the owner of YouTube, for a response.
Labour MP Sarah Sackman has identified some of the videos as being filmed in the Golders Green area within her constituency, which is home to one of Europe’s largest Jewish communities.
She expressed her dismay to Jewish News, stating, “The videos of antisemitic abuse on Golders Green High Street sicken me, and the perpetrators must be held accountable. It is beyond belief that these individuals could not only carry out this abuse, but proudly post about it online.”
Rabbi Levi Schapiro from the Jewish Community Council (JCC) has advocated for more immediate and robust intervention to curb the dissemination of such harmful antisemitic content. He has urged major social media platforms to enhance efforts in removing hateful materials.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the reported “antisemitic social media videos” in Stamford Hill and are encouraging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated, “We have initiated an investigation following reports of antisemitic social media videos filmed in Stamford Hill. Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference 01/7425291/26.
“Hate crime in any form is unacceptable in our communities, and we treat all reports with utmost seriousness.”
