“Ex-Tory MPs, Including Liz Truss, Attend Lavish Davos Ski Week”

Published on

Piste-loving Liz Truss partook in a ski trip to enhance Parliamentary connections, despite her departure from the Commons almost two years ago. The former Prime Minister, along with six other ex-Tory MPs, participated in the 70th Parliamentary Ski Week in Davos, a luxurious destination for the wealthy. Truss, who secured third place in the women’s race at the event, aimed to strengthen ties between the UK, Switzerland, and the European Union.

Critics expressed disapproval of Truss’ presence, citing concerns about her politically divisive views and their potential negative impact on the country. Labour Party chair Anna Turley criticized Truss for her brief and turbulent tenure as Tory PM, attributing financial difficulties faced by working families to her policies. Turley urged Truss to take accountability for the economic challenges experienced by many households.

Truss, known for her brief stint in Number 10 and her ambition to emulate Donald Trump’s political approach in the UK, transitioned from a pro-Remain advocate to a staunch Brexit supporter. As Foreign Secretary, she assumed responsibility for post-Brexit negotiations with the EU following Lord Frost’s resignation.

The exclusive ski event, catering to networking, political discussions, and fostering bilateral relations, has been a tradition since 1956, aiming to strengthen ties between the UK, Switzerland, and the EU. Attendees indulged in lavish dining experiences at upscale restaurants in Davos, enjoying the picturesque views of the Swiss Alps.

Notable attendees included former Tory MPs Sara Britcliffe, Tim Loughton, Lady Victoria Borwick, Sally-Ann Hart, Henry Smith, and Ben Everitt, each with their own political backgrounds and controversies. The event also welcomed serving MP Andrew Griffith and Tory peers Lord Ashcombe, Lord Young, and Lord Jamieson, alongside British Ambassador James Squire.

The Parliamentary Ski Week continues to serve as a platform for political, sporting, and friendly exchanges between British and Swiss parliamentarians, ensuring enduring relations between the two nations.
