Dan Walker, a prominent BBC presenter, receives backing from Sue Barker, another well-known broadcaster, ahead of his upcoming employment tribunal. The tribunal, scheduled for later this month, stems from claims of sexism, misogyny, and workplace bullying made against Dan by his former Channel 5 co-host, Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije.
Dan, who recently joined Channel 5 News, is a respondent in the case along with ITN and Channel 5’s parent company, Paramount. Claudia-Liza, who departed Channel 5 in 2024 after a six-year tenure, brought forth the allegations following her time working alongside Dan in her final year at the broadcaster.
Strongly refuting the accusations, Dan’s stance is supported by over 50 individuals who have provided witness statements and testimonials in his favor. Notably, Sue Barker, who collaborated with Dan at BBC Sport, commended him as one of the most pleasant and hard-working presenters she has worked with.
Represented by lawyer Jonathan Coad, Claudia-Liza claims she faced a “sham redundancy” due to whistleblowing on a toxic workplace culture at Channel 5 News, citing racism, sexism, misogyny, and bullying. She alleges ITN and Channel 5 tried to conceal the purported racist behaviors, breaching obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and their Ofcom License terms.
The upcoming trial is expected to address previous statements made by Dan regarding the allegations against him. Despite the controversy, Dan remains resolute, asserting his innocence and emphasizing the importance of truth.
The Mirror has reached out to representatives for Dan Walker, Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije, and Sue Barker for comments.
