Kanye West, known as Ye, faced a series of concert cancellations in the United Kingdom and Europe after sparking controversy with his antisemitic remarks and releasing a swastika-themed t-shirt. Despite issuing an apology, several planned performances, including his headline slot at Wireless Festival, were called off. Attempts to secure dates at Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium were also unsuccessful.
Recently, West’s shows in Switzerland and Poland were axed, with FC Basel citing values as the reason for canceling the event at St Jakob-Park. Additionally, his much-anticipated performance at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów, Poland, was canceled due to undisclosed formal and legal reasons.
In response to West’s actions, Poland’s culture ministry sought to ban him from performing in the country, denouncing his promotion of Nazism. French authorities also intervened, leading to the postponement of his Marseille concert. Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan expressed his opposition to hosting West, citing the city’s multicultural history and rejecting the promotion of hate and Nazism.
West, who had previously faced backlash for releasing a song titled “Heil Hitler,” had his Australian visa revoked for similar reasons. He later apologized for his antisemitic comments, acknowledging a period of erratic behavior and expressing a desire to seek forgiveness.
Despite the setbacks, West remains a polarizing figure in the music industry, with his actions drawing both criticism and scrutiny from authorities and fans worldwide.
