A tragic incident occurred at the Teotihuacán archaeological site in Mexico, resulting in the death of a Canadian woman and multiple injuries caused by a gunman’s attack. Mexican officials reported that the assailant, who later took his own life, was armed with a firearm, a bladed weapon, and live ammunition.
Among the injured were six individuals, four of whom sustained gunshot wounds, while two others were hurt while attempting to escape the violence. Reports suggest that the attacker moved around a mid-level platform of the Pyramid of the Sun before committing suicide. Videos circulating online show the gunman walking on the structure as visitors looked on from the steps below.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended solidarity to the victims and their families. She announced that the Security Cabinet has been directed to investigate the matter thoroughly and provide necessary support. Authorities from the Secretariat of the Interior and Culture are en route to the site to offer assistance and collaboration with local officials.
