A young child, Teddy Hemms, sought an optician’s help for blurry vision, only to be unexpectedly diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor. Despite appearing healthy initially, Teddy’s eye examination revealed concerning swelling behind his eyes, leading to the discovery of grade four medulloblastoma, a highly malignant type of brain cancer.
Following the diagnosis, Teddy underwent intense treatments, including surgery to address multiple brain tumors that had also spread to his spine. The medical team informed Teddy’s family of the urgent need for treatment, as the young boy faced a life expectancy of only six to 12 weeks without intervention. Subsequently, Teddy underwent radiation, chemotherapy, and major surgeries, resulting in significant physical challenges such as the inability to walk and severe illness.
Currently, Teddy is undergoing a more aggressive chemotherapy regimen, despite the side effects, with the hope of combating the cancer before transitioning to palliative care. His family, particularly his devoted mother Cindy and father Ian, have been deeply affected by the sudden turn of events, feeling helpless yet determined to support Teddy’s fight against the disease.
Teddy’s journey began when he attended an eye test after experiencing blurred vision and headaches shortly after starting school. The routine appointment quickly escalated into urgent scans and surgeries, unveiling the presence of cancerous masses in his brain. Despite Teddy’s stable appearance, the aggressive nature of the cancer necessitated immediate and intensive treatment to improve his chances of survival.
Throughout the challenging treatment process, Teddy’s family has been by his side, with Cindy sacrificing her career to care for him full-time. The financial strain of medical expenses has prompted them to launch a fundraiser to cover the costs of Teddy’s ongoing treatment. The family’s savings have been depleted, underscoring the need for external support to ensure Teddy receives the care he urgently requires.
As Teddy continues to battle against the odds, his family remains hopeful, taking each day as it comes and cherishing small victories along the way. The road ahead is uncertain, but their unwavering positivity and determination to help Teddy fight against metastatic brain cancer serve as a beacon of strength during this challenging time.
