“easyJet Flight Diverted to London for Passenger Welfare Issue”

Published on

An easyJet flight originally traveling from Edinburgh to the Canary Islands had to be diverted to London due to a situation involving passenger welfare on board. The flight, identified as EZY3201 en route to Tenerife, took off from Edinburgh Airport at 3:35 pm on Wednesday. While it was supposed to land at Tenerife South Airport around 8:05 pm, the aircraft had to change its course to Gatwick Airport following the incident. Flight tracking data revealed that the Airbus A320 was flying southwest over Brittany in north-west France at an altitude of approximately 35,000 feet before redirecting northeast towards London. The plane made a safe landing at Gatwick Airport a little after 5:30 pm.

Although easyJet confirmed that the diversion was due to a welfare concern, the airline did not provide further details on the issue. Notably, the flight crew did not issue a squawk 7700 distress code, indicating that it was not a general emergency situation. In an online update to passengers, easyJet expressed regret for the diversion, citing the welfare issue as the reason. They emphasized that the disruption was unforeseen and beyond their control, classifying it as an extraordinary circumstance. The airline assured passengers that they intended to refuel the aircraft promptly to resume the journey to Tenerife. Passengers were informed that the crew would keep them informed of any developments.

Following the diversion to London, the flight is anticipated to depart around 9:45 pm to complete its trip to Tenerife, with an expected arrival time of around 2:30 am.
