“Deported ‘King’ of ‘Lost African Tribe’ Returns to Ghana”

Published on

The Home Office has confirmed the deportation of a man who led a self-proclaimed ‘lost African tribe’ in a woodland in Scotland.

Known as King Atehene, the man, whose real name is Kofi Offeh, was engaged in a legal dispute last year with locals, law enforcement, and the council after entering a conflict when he established a camp near Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders.

Referring to themselves as the Kingdom of Kubala, the trio, consisting of King Atehene, a woman described as his ‘Queen,’ and another as his ‘handmaiden,’ asserted to be ancestral owners of the land and descendants of ‘Black Jacobites’ who were granted the land centuries ago. After a prolonged stand-off lasting about four months, they were removed in October following a forceful police operation.

The Home Office has now verified the deportation of Mr. Offeh back to Ghana. This confirmation came after his recent arrival at Kotoko international airport in Accra.

In a video recorded shortly after his return, he reaffirmed his status as a “King” and vowed a “new era of the Kingdom of Kubala.”

He declared on camera, “All the police will serve me, all the chiefs will bow before me, even a president will have to kneel in my presence.”

Living in the camp in Scotland, Mr. Offeh resided with his 43-year-old wife, Jean Gasho, who adopted the title “Queen Nandi,” and a third member, 21-year-old Kaura “Asnat” Taylor, who referred to herself as an “inferior mistress” and a “surrogate for the queen.” Ms. Taylor, originally from Dallas, Texas, was released in October following her detention by immigration authorities. Initially evicted by the Scottish Borders Council from a privately-owned camp overlooking Jedburgh in July, the group relocated just outside the town to a wooded area adjacent to an industrial zone.

After being forced out of their second makeshift camp by sheriff officers, they settled on land owned by the Scottish Borders Council nearby.
