Former Russian spy, Sergei Skripal, was captured on CCTV handing out bread to children to feed ducks in Salisbury, Wilts, shortly before he and his daughter, Yulia, were found unconscious on a bench. The footage is part of the upcoming Channel 4 documentary, “Salisbury Poisonings: The Untold Story,” which showcases the events leading up to the Skripals’ poisoning with novichok nerve agent.

The investigation revealed that novichok was left on the Skripals’ front door handle, likely contaminating them as they left their home. Despite their exposure, they were seen on CCTV visiting various locations in Salisbury, including feeding ducks by the river and interacting with children. Concerns arose about the potential risks to the public due to contamination.

Tracy Daszkiewicz, former Wiltshire director of public health, expressed worries about the safety of those around the Skripals, especially the children who were in contact with them. Fortunately, subsequent tests on the children who received bread from Sergei Skripal showed no traces of the nerve agent.

The Channel 4 series delves into the poisoning of the Skripals and the subsequent events that unfolded in Salisbury. Detective Inspector Ben Mant of Wiltshire Police shared the emotional toll of the incident, particularly regarding the near-fatal exposure of Sergeant Nick Bailey, who came into contact with the nerve agent during the investigation.

Despite efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice, Russia has refused to extradite three suspected Russian agents linked to the attack. The fallout from the poisoning, which also resulted in the tragic death of Dawn Sturgess, continues to raise questions about accountability and international cooperation in addressing such incidents.
