Jos Verstappen had a narrow escape from a serious car accident at the Rally of Wallonia over the weekend. Despite his vehicle being severely damaged after hitting a tree, Verstappen emerged uninjured. His Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 was found overturned with a wheel missing and extensive damage.

The father of Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen, Jos, was competing in the rally with co-driver Jesper Vermeulen when their car slid off the track and collided with a tree. Fortunately, both occupants walked away unscathed, with Verstappen confirming his well-being following the incident. The car had already sustained damage from a previous stage of the competition.

Despite the setback, Verstappen displayed an impressive performance, securing third place behind Adrian Fernemont and Maxime Potty at the end of Saturday’s events. However, due to the crash, he and Vermeulen had to withdraw from the race. The Rally of Wallonia, known for its technical challenges, takes place on tarmac roads with high-speed and demanding sections.

Notably, Verstappen was without his regular co-driver Renaud Jamoul for this year’s rally due to the latter’s surgery. The incident comes at a time when Max Verstappen’s future in Formula 1 is uncertain, with fans eagerly awaiting the upcoming Miami Grand Prix after the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia events.

Max has been critical of the new rules and regulations in F1, expressing his dissatisfaction with the changes that have impacted the sport. Following a disappointing eighth-place finish in Japan, he reflected on the toll of the demanding race schedule and the importance of finding joy in the sport.
