Gabby Logan recently disclosed a health issue that caused her to struggle with memory lapses while speaking during live broadcasts. The 52-year-old presenter, known for hosting major BBC sports events like the London Marathon, found herself experiencing “brain fog,” a common symptom of perimenopause described by The Menopause Charity as a feeling of having a clouded mind.
Understanding the root cause of her memory lapses brought relief to Gabby. To cope with the issue, she now keeps a piece of paper on hand during broadcasts to jot down names as a precaution. She shared in an interview with The Telegraph how initially, she was taken aback by her inability to recall information, which was a stark contrast to her past ability to remember details effortlessly.
Embracing her journey through perimenopause, Gabby has delved into reading outside her usual preferences and even authored a book titled ‘The Midpoint Plan,’ focusing on healthy living in middle age. She has also challenged herself with activities like memorizing numbers and avoiding the temptation to search for information she already knows online. Additionally, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has played a positive role in enhancing her memory function.
Gabby emphasized the importance of strength training for menopausal women, launching The Menopace Strength Test with fitness expert Annie Murray. The program consists of nine exercises targeting key health indicators like grip, strength, endurance, stability, and aerobic fitness, designed to seamlessly integrate into daily routines. Both Gabby and Annie advocate for the empowering benefits of strength training, not only for physical fitness but also for boosting confidence, resilience, and overall well-being during menopause and beyond.
