A man from Florida accused of killing a woman he met on a fetish website is set to face trial later this year. Dwain Hall, aged 54, pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder and kidnapping of Brit Sonia Exelby, who traveled to the US from Portsmouth in October last year. Police reports revealed that Sonia had gone to Florida with the possibility of experiencing sexual abuse, torture, and murder.
An autopsy determined that Sonia died from four stab wounds, and her body was discovered in a shallow grave. Initially denying any connection to Sonia, Hall later admitted to having a sexual encounter with her, as per official documents.
Hall made a brief court appearance where the trial schedule was discussed. The trial, scheduled to commence on November 16, will include jury selection and is expected to last about a week in Marion County, Florida.
Sonia’s body was found in the woods after she missed her return flight to London on October 13. Concerned family members mentioned Sonia’s mental health struggles and vulnerability, especially after engaging with a man on the fetish website.
Their conversations reportedly escalated from bondage and suicide discussions to Sonia expressing a desire to be killed. An affidavit suggested that if Hall had been compelled to assist in her death, he would have taken her to Alligator Alley, where nature would have taken its course.
