“Nations Fear Financial Losses Ahead of World Cup”

Published on

Several nations that have secured a spot in the upcoming World Cup are expressing concerns over the high costs associated with the tournament. There is a fear among these countries that they might end up losing money rather than making profits. The issue of the exorbitant fees will be raised at the FIFA congress scheduled to take place in Vancouver later this week.

One of the main concerns raised by these nations is the significant reduction in the daily allowances provided by FIFA to delegates compared to the previous World Cup. Countries were allocated £630 per person per day during the 2022 tournament, which has now been reduced to £430 for the upcoming event. They are hoping for a reconsideration of these costs or a larger share of the profits from FIFA.

The major complaint centers around the high expenses involved in booking accommodations and training facilities in the host countries – the United States, Canada, and Mexico. A FIFA insider, who preferred to remain anonymous, emphasized the real possibility of several countries experiencing financial losses due to the current situation. The source highlighted the unprecedented scale of the financial stakes involved in the world’s most lucrative sporting event.

The concern extends not only to smaller nations but also to larger countries dissatisfied with the financial aspects of the tournament. The upcoming FIFA Congress, where representatives from all 211 member associations will convene in Canada, will provide a platform to address these concerns comprehensively.

The issue of allowances is expected to be a focal point of discussion during the congress, with hopes for a constructive resolution. The World Cup, set to kick off on June 10th in the US, Canada, and Mexico, will culminate with the final match in New York City on July 19th. England’s team will be headquartered in Kansas City and will compete in group matches in Dallas, Boston, and New York. FIFA has been contacted for a response regarding these financial concerns.
