Sheridan Smith recently shared a troubling incident where she was denied boarding on a flight due to being deemed intoxicated. The 44-year-old actress has been candid about her struggles with alcohol over the years. However, in 2019, she made the decision to quit drinking, noting a significant improvement in her well-being. Prior to her sobriety, alcohol had caused her issues, including an incident with airline staff during a trip to America.
During a podcast with Alan Carr, Sheridan admitted to missing a flight due to being inebriated, attributing it partly to her ADHD and forgetfulness. Reflecting on the incident, she humorously recounted being left behind while everyone else boarded the flight.
Sheridan had faced personal challenges, feeling ashamed of her behavior during her father’s battle with cancer in 2016. The emotional turmoil of her father’s illness and her brother’s past death from the same condition led her to heavy drinking and reliance on anti-anxiety medication, a period she regrets deeply.
The actress eventually stopped taking medication following a jest from Graham Norton at the 2016 BAFTAs. She is currently starring in BBC One’s “The Cage,” playing the role of Leanne, a casino employee entangled in a dangerous situation with her colleague Matty. The series, filmed in Liverpool, holds a special place in Sheridan’s heart, as she considers the city her “adopted” home since her involvement in the 2016 drama “Cilla.” She expressed her fondness for the city and its welcoming people, reminiscing about the warmth and support she received during her time there.
