A massive fire has torn through a recently renovated hotel in St Andrews, causing significant traffic disruptions on nearby roads.
Emergency response teams rushed to St Michaels Inn, close to Leuchars, around 10 pm on Tuesday. At the peak of the incident, nine fire appliances and four specialized units were deployed to the location. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
As of Wednesday morning, six fire engines and three specialized units were still on-site battling the intense blaze, according to the Daily Record. Authorities have advised local residents to keep their windows and doors shut as a safety precaution.
Fife Council posted on social media, alerting the public about the extensive road closures in North East Fife, towards Dundee, due to the fire at St Michael’s Inn.
The affected routes include A914 (Dairsie to St Michaels), A919 (Leuchars to St Michaels), B945 (Tayport to St Michaels), and the C12 between A92 and A914, from Forgan Roundabout to St Michaels.
A representative from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service stated, “Firefighters are currently on-site at a commercial building fire at St. Michaels Inn, Leuchars, St Andrews. Six fire engines and three specialized units are still at the scene. People are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. Residents in the vicinity are urged to close their windows and doors as a precaution.”
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
