Vladimir Putin has cautioned Donald Trump about potential severe repercussions if the US proceeds with additional strikes on Iran, as per recent reports. The warning came during a 90-minute phone call where the two leaders also discussed the Iran conflict and floated the idea of a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine.
According to Putin’s foreign policy adviser, the Russian president conveyed to Washington the view that a US ground operation in Iran would be risky. Russian media coverage indicated that Putin highlighted the likelihood of “extremely harmful consequences” in the event of another strike on Iran by the US and Israel, emphasizing the dangers of a ground operation or invasion.
Following the conversation, Trump remarked positively, stating, “We had a very good conversation, I’ve known him a long time.” He mentioned that Putin suggested transporting Iran’s buried uranium to Russia, but Trump expressed a preference for Putin’s involvement in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
Trump emphasized the importance of ending the Ukraine conflict before seeking assistance, expressing confidence in finding a prompt resolution with Putin. He also mentioned proposing a ceasefire and hinted at Putin’s potential agreement to it.
Additionally, Trump implied that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy played a role in the lack of a peace settlement. Discussions between the two leaders included the possibility of a short-term ceasefire in Ukraine coinciding with the anniversary of the end of World War II next month, a proposal similar to one from the past that did not come to fruition.
The developments followed a significant address by King Charles to Congress, where he urged for unwavering commitment to safeguarding Ukraine and its people.
