A bus with passengers onboard veered into a major river in France due to an alleged mistake by a trainee driver. The incident occurred this morning at approximately 8:30 am UK time when the bus collided with a parked car, causing both vehicles to plunge into the River Seine. The bus had four individuals aboard, including the driver, an instructor, and two passengers, while the parked car was unoccupied.
The accident transpired at the Draveil bridge near Quai Jean-Pierre Timbaud, as per local sources. Emergency divers swiftly responded to the scene and successfully rescued all four passengers from the sinking bus. Subsequent images displayed the bus fully submerged in water, with a dark blue car floating nearby. Divers thoroughly searched the vehicles and confirmed no one was trapped inside.
Lamia Bensarsa Reda, the mayor of Juvisy, expressed shock over the incident, labeling it as the “worst day” of her life. She commended the rapid actions of the police and emergency services for averting any casualties. Reda mentioned that municipal police officers were present to manage the heavy traffic flow around the Seine riverbanks and emphasized the need for an internal investigation to determine the accident’s cause promptly.
Both the car and the bus are scheduled to be retrieved from the water later today.
