An inquiry into the tragic sinking of the Bayesian superyacht, resulting in the loss of seven lives, including a prominent billionaire, has revealed that the fatal incident was not attributed to adverse weather conditions.
The vessel, belonging to British tycoon Mike Lynch, went down off the shores of Sicily amidst stormy weather in August 2024. Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, were among the casualties of the tragic sinking.
Italian prosecutors commissioned a team of experts to investigate whether the storm was the direct cause of the superyacht’s submersion. According to reports, the storm was characterized as a brief surge in wind speed, known as a squall, preceding thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, a situation that should have been manageable for the crew.
Initial findings indicate that the yacht’s sinking was primarily due to mishandling by crew members, as per Sky News. Authorities are now deliberating on potential charges of negligence leading to shipwreck and multiple counts of manslaughter against the captain and two crew members involved.
