Labour’s long-standing dominance in Wales is also under serious threat, with its 27-year control of the Senedd in jeopardy. There is speculation surrounding the possibility of a leadership challenge against the Prime Minister if the election results turn out as bleak as anticipated, potentially leading to heightened tensions by Friday.
A source from 10 Downing Street conveyed to The Mirror, “During the general election, the nation decisively voted to end the turmoil caused by the Conservative government. It would be unforgivable if we repeated their error of changing leaders instead of transforming the nation. Insisting that the PM reapply for his role precisely when he is addressing the repercussions of the Iran conflict on British households, including the rising cost of living, would be a major diversion.
“Keir Starmer has a proactive agenda aimed at strengthening and promoting fairness in the country, such as lifting more than half a million children out of poverty. In the upcoming days and weeks, he will outline the next phases of his strategy to reform the country, including in the forthcoming King’s Speech.”
Recently, Mr. Starmer dismissed inquiries about his leadership, affirming to the BBC that he would be evaluated based on his pledges in 2029, the scheduled year for the next general election. When asked if he would have the courage to step down if the results were catastrophic, the Prime Minister responded, “I was elected in July 2024 on a platform of change.
