A man wearing a balaclava has been apprehended for allegedly making threats towards Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor near his new residence on the King’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk. The individual reportedly approached the former prince while he was walking his dogs last night around 7:30 pm.
Upon the suspect’s sudden appearance and shouting, the former Duke of York and a member of his security team quickly reacted by heading towards their nearby car. The man is said to have chased after them as they drove away down a lane outside the Sandringham Royal Parkland. Police were alerted, leading to the arrest of the suspect on-site for further questioning.
Authorities have clarified that the incident is not linked to terrorism, with investigations suggesting the individual may have an obsessive focus. The encounter took place near Mountbatten-Windsor’s temporary residence at Marsh Farm, currently under renovation for his permanent stay.
Witness statements, including those from the ex-Duke of York and his security personnel, have been gathered. Following the removal of his royal title and state-funded police protection in 2022, the discredited former Duke lost his military honors and royal affiliations, which were returned to Queen Elizabeth.
According to Westminster Security, a private firm established by a former Royal Military Police protection officer, Andrew ceased to be eligible for royal protection when he withdrew from public duties. Unlike his previous heavily guarded residence at Windsor Great Park, Sandringham, being a private estate, employs security measures overseen by Charles, inherited from the late Queen.
Flight restrictions were recently enforced over the area following drone sightings during a visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, at the request of security services. Sandringham, with its restricted public access, encompasses Mountbatten-Windsor’s home within a vast 20,000-acre estate.
